Game 1
Togan Alper (Rome): 5
Mark McG (Carthage): 7

Despite some efforts to show finesse, this became a brutal slugging match. Gathered 3 banners in final turn to claim victory

Game 2
Togan Alper (Carthage): 6
Mark McG (Rome): 7

Another brutal slugathon. Poised at 6:6 the winner was decided by dice off between two MC and Leaders with a block apiece. Togan rolled and came up empty, battle back took him down. A triumph of luck over probability.

Gonzo over Michal 14-9 in match
Carthage line shifted to right and Double Timed into Roman left killing 2 units, losing a heavy. Roman Right closed but had terrible luck after killing a light, losing several more units on both flanks. Final Roman Spartacus started well, but Carthaginian bb killed a full strenth Roman inf, second time in the game for the win before the Romans could claim 3 more banners on his turn. Michal took the bad luck with poise. Thanks for the match!

Tight nip and tuck game. Persian initial missile fire effective, eliminating a LI on turn 2. Roman left quiet most of game, the Romans massed to right. Their right LI and AUX took mujlt hits but got away. With 6 card hans, the lines on that flank met with a flurry of good cards. Dust settled with score very close, but Carthaginian Left broken. Carthaginian Center Hvy formation theratened and potent but nicked Roman right fell back and 2 Roman missile guys escaped. Cartaginian Cav assault on opposite falnk left elephant and 1 Roman MI dead. Center Roman DT trades units. Last turn Carthaginian able to pick off lone AUX, but missed against main line and COA finished him off. Very well played by Michal. Both sides had some good rolls at times and good cards. Fun and thanks to Michal.

Game 2
Max Bogatov (Carthage): 3 banners
Armada01(Tony) (Rome): 7 banners

After maneuvering and many range attacks from both sides which were ineffective, the Carthaginian left moved forward and attacked taking first blood. The Romans met this advance with their own advance destroying a Carthaginian unit which resulted in the Carthaginians moving away on their next move. When the Romans didn't not push their advantage, Carthage again attacked with the left flank. Unable to destroy any Romans, the Romans countered with their own advance on that flank destroying 2 Carthaginian units. The Carthage left shrank back from the enemy.

Action shifted to the Carthaginian left as the Romans moved laterally and then the Carthaginian mounted charged. Luckily the Roman M used first strike against the elephant and caused it to retreat. Surprisingly, there were no losses due to the rampage. Carthaginian M Cav destroyed a Roman M Cav unit.

The Romans advance on the other flank and destroyed a slinger unit and the Carthaginians again moved away. The Romans on the left then advanced against the Carthage mounted and destroyed a L Cav unit. Carthage again mounted charge. They lost their Med Cav but the elephants destroyed a Roman M Cav and caused the Roman leader to evade off of board. 2 Roman infantry units cut off a L Cav unit and a flag roll destroyed it ending the game.

An interesting game. It would have been much closer without the First Strike and some less than optimal rolling by Max.

Start. Carthage was to use the archers. Rome had to come closer. But order "Spartacus" activated only 2 romans units... attack failed.

Carthage counterattacked, too, "Spartakus" and 6 active brigades extracted 5 banners. Some legioneers eliminate medium cavalry. Line Command and Carthage press left.

Double time - agan roman's attack failed...

Game 1:

Stanislav27 (Carthage): 7
RiverWanderer (Rome): 2

Most of the battle was fought on the Roman right with Carthage concentrating on ranged attacks as the Romans advanced with multiple "Order Medium" command cards. Carthaginian spirits were buoyed when a Roman "Mounted Charge" faced less than ideal dice rolls with the Roman cavalry destroyed quickly destroyed in its entirety. Further action on the Roman right followed with the Carthaginians getting the better of their opponents.

Game 2:

RiverWanderer (Carthage): 4
Stanislav27 (Rome): 7

Mark's closing remarks from the first battle were "Perhaps I will learn not to waste cavalry." However, fortuna conspired against this sentence, as his Carthaginian light cavalry was routed in the first attempt by opportunistic Roman ranged fire, which needed a single Flag to disperse the unit.

The second battle was extremely bloody with almost all action taking place on the Roman left and centre-left. Indeed, the Romans kept getting "Order Left" cards all game. The Carthaginians recovered very well after losing their light cavalrymen, putting incredibly accurate ranged fire to good use and chasing a Romand medium infantry until it was shot to pieces before the Romans could close their ranks and protect their comrades.

After baiting the Roman cavalry forward, the Carthaginians unleashed two Mounted Charges, bringing the deadly elephants to bear. The Romans just about weathered the storm, with multiple units severely weakened. The Carthaginian cavalry had advanced very far, however, and after enveloping it, the Romans managed to get back in the fight on the left wing.

Further combat ensued as the Carthaginians brought their Heavy Infantry forward and causing havoc on the Roman centre-left. The Carthaginian elephants had withstood numerous attacks and battle-backs without suffering even a scratch. But then the Roman luck turned, and an advanced Auxilia unit killed the elephants in a single volley of javelin fire. The Carthaginians kept sweeping the pathetic remnants of Roman opposition on the left, but this was not without cost. The Romans managed to seal their victory with their cavalry, which routed a depleted unit of archers and a weakened unit of North African heavy infantry.

Thanks to Mark for two great and entertaining games. Best of luck in future rounds!

Battle essentially fought in the center by heavy and medium foot soldiers. Two leaders eliminated by a two dice leader check, one per side. Also, a first strike from a 1 (or 2, don't remember) block Roman medium unit eliminated a full-strength medium cavalry charging it. The elephant tried to steal the limelight, as it sometimes does, but struck by a javelin retreated in the second lines not to appear anymore. All considered a rather eventful battle, but with the usual ebb and flow of this kind of symmetric confrontation. Despite the use of a large array of units, this scenario does not introduce remarkably new tactical elements with respect to the battles of the base game.

Very tought game. Carthagen attacked at his left and center. But I can`t wait and attacked too. It was 4 turns of meat grinder. No LI lost, no mounted lost, only Medium and Heavy infantry (and one Aux)! All was solved at last turn. I was lucky enough and destroyed two 2-blocks units. If not I`m afraid I would lost my two on next turn.

Very good scenario, I would like to play it several times more!

Mike played aggressively and really put me on the ropes. I split my forces to attack a lone Roman medium infantry, for a medal. I could not resist attacking such an easy prey but it was a mistake. With a second line command, Mike managed to attain a clear troop superiority in the center and I thought he was going to win the confrontation. The dice betrayed him, however, and he lost a leader to my counterattack. So what should have been the definite demise of the Carthaginian army became my occasion of capturing the final victory points.

Both games decided on the right Carthaginian flank. In first Carhage provoked with its LC Roman cavalry to attack. In counterattack 2 Roman MC's were destroyed. In addition mounted Carthaginians eliminated also 1 M and 1 A unit. That made the difference. Clash of infantries in the center was bloody, but successful for Mago.
I second game first attacked Cartaginians provoked by movement of Roman A unit to the left. In counterattack Roman cavalry was successful. Cavalry pursuit destroyed almost all L and A Carthaginian unit on their Right. Elephants were eliminated by Roman Auxilia. Last frontal attack made by card I Am Spartacus didn't broke Roman Line and Legions eliminated W unit with a Leader.
