Historical Background
During the reign of King Shu-Sin (III dynasty of Ur), attacks by nomads from the western deserts on the borders of his kingdom became more frequent. The Akkadians called these people amurrum, that is, Amorites. Controlling the long border and constant skirmishes required significant resources. To defend against them, Shu-Sin had to build defensive walls around the cities. In the 4th year of his reign, around 2023 BC, Shu-Sin ordered the construction of a barrier wall in the area of the middle course of the Euphrates. This wall stretches for about 200 km along the edge of the desert from the Euphrates to the Tigris, north of Baghdad.
The scenario shows what the battle of the invading Amorites with the Sumerian border troops might look like.
