Final game 2: BH05 - Lützen

Allies (Gonzo) - French (Bayernkini)
1 : 8

The main problem was surly the bad day/dice of Joe today.

French advanced early on center-right and right flank, couldnt retreat and hold the position for the final attacks.
Here the Guards was really helpfull.

My vassal file is broken, so the last turns missing here.

Final game 1: BH05 - Lützen

Allies (Bayernkini) - French (Gonzo)
8 : 4

Starting game and first turns with regrouping and range fire, which suffers not much.
Then a Prussian HC supported with a FA attacked the GLC, which weaked the GLC to 1block and killed the prussian (Charge if charged).
On this attack the french counters with a CavCharge, which could decide game here already.
But the french failed and allies counter with CavCharge and the allies goes in front with 2:1.

Now follows again a few turns with regrouping and range fire. Then the Allies played a Leadership and could weak the french FA on the french right flank to 1block, also the attacking russian HC was down to 1block.
The french counter couldnt destroy the single HC and the FA was destroyed in the battleback, Allies leads 3:1.

Then the french prepared all his Yound and Old Guards for a center attack, which follows with a ForceMarch, which killed a prussian HC.
Score 3:2.

Allies answered with range fire and killed one YG, score 4:2.

Then a french BayonettCharge was following, so he could roll 6/7 dice with his guards. The first attack of a YG on the 2block left prussian FA failed (only one hit), and battleback killed the YG.
a French LT attack on a Prussian LN in the ford failed again.
Then the OG killed the prussian 2block LC and with inspired Leadership the OG killed the single block prussian FA too.
The other french YG failed with 6 dice against a prussian LT (only 2 hits),
Score here now Allies 5 : 4 French.

The prussian played ColdSteel and wiped out the french OG and the prussian LT, leaving back the weak 2block YG in front of the Allies,
Score 7:4 now.

The french saved his left flank with a reatreat now, and tried to attack the russians on the right flank, but also this attacks was to weak and the counter attacks in following 2 turns killed the last needed french unit for victory.

I hope, i can beat Joe´s 4 banners in rematch ;)

Brad, I don't necessarily see any urgency to get this played. Taken 3 weeks to have the other Semi-Final played.
I'm happy to let it run, and I'm trying to get the Open Tournament filled and up, so there is source of organised games in the wings.

yes in the second game Gonzo played the French. Both games timely cards won the games for Gonzo in the first two tactics cards broke up a cav charge and the a great roll on a reform and a rally card made a big difference. In the second game two force marches and a bayonet charge with another rally killed the Allied left. Log files for both games are added the first is only the last half of the game. In the first we had a discussion about block counts he had recovered 7 blocks from rallies and reforms the question was should that 7 be added that French final count making it 22-22 not 22-15. In the big picture Gonzo played very well and won both games. Thanks again for another fun tourney.

Started play of our semi last weekend, but have some things going on that distracted from play so had to adjourn temporarily and couldnt get back to it. I dont see a free weekend for the next month or more (we will be getting my mother resettled into a new apartment AND fall volleyball season has started up) to get online and play.Ggiven the time zone difference, will be even more difficult, preventing any hope of weekday play. So as to not hold things up, someone can take my place or I will be happy to forfeit.

I take it Gonzo was the French in Game 2
Gonzo replied the topic:

Game 1
Gonzo (Austrian) 5 banners, Sansmerci (French) 3 banners--Most of action on French right. Critical was an early Austrian bombard which got their artillery into position and two of them in a grand battery. Dueling cavalry attacks accomplished little, but French lt lost while Austrian 1 pt LC got away. Austrian kept pushing on that flank with help of great rally rolls. It took Steve 7 hits to kill the Austrian CU. Close game, but Bavarians able to finish French on that side for win.

Game 2
Gonzo (Austrian) 5 banners, Sansmerci (French) 2 banners. Again most of action of French right. French loaded up on right, using Bayonet Charge, two Forced marches, mult command and flank cards with inf forward leaders to overwhelm that flank. An Austrian assault on that flank with Cav killed 2 French, but with no inf left, they were stymied by squares. Austrian forays incl HC attacks on opposite flank killed some blocks, but unable to kill art, then everyone ran into terrain. A French Rally again was critical and a Cav charge by French HC killed a full Austrian FA for the final medal.

Thanks to Sansmerci for the match. Luck varied wildly at times, but Gonzo go the cards and dice he needed in the end.

We are sorry that we are one day late for the game. The frech was heldıng the hılls and defendıng very bravely the shootıng and the Lebreu s attacks on the rıght flank make the allıes lose 3 unıts and loose a lot of strength ın the center wıthout losıng any of the french unıts. At whıch poınt shaq88 decıded to retıre and reform for the next tournament so ıt ıs a 8 -0for the French

The Beta Semifinalists are already determined.

Shaq has 3 matches to play, and the Ordal Cross match may not be required at all if the results of the other 2 matches decide the Semi Final outcome. So let's see how those two matches play out before we grow concerned about that match.

I am willing to play substitute. There are probably others that missed the entrée. We should all feel good about this.

Please keep playing the matches you can. I'd like to get a definitive result for the Alpha side before declaring.

Charles has now withdrawn for personal reasons, so those matches are forfeit, but probably won't effect the semi-final outcome.

Laon, French Right

Tarheel (Allies) - 8 banners - 10 blocks lost
Charlescab (French) - 2 banners - 30 blocks lost

Initial allied move shifted units into Ardon and advanced cav and infantry towards the hills. French shifted center forces behind hills and took a pot shot with center ART to hit a LT. Allied response was a bold move up hills to attack a LT behind the hills, with a net Prussian retreat. More successful was the Prussian LC attacking the center FR ART with help from a cav forward card unit using combined arms with distant guns. It was an overrun, and the exploiting cav then hit one of the FR LT, with a hit and retreat forced. FR then maneuvered the two left flank cav units towards center to threaten the dangerous LC.

Prussians shifted action, swinging the LC towards the Athies side of the battlefield, of out of reach from Fr cav units. Some brief fire exchanges with little damage near Athies/center was followed by French HC and LC with infantry and artillery support pushing near Athies. Eventually, FR had their other FA unit destroyed and the LC put a FR unit in square. French cav finally arrived, and counterattacked Prussian LN, threatening their squared LN. The GLC however were surprised by prepared Prussian LN (inf first) and were completely destroyed in one volley. The CU met a square. However, the CU were hemmed with no retreat path when the Allied GR unit attacked causing heavy damage. Minor damage on CA.

Prussian advanced now on the other side of Athies with a screening force of Militia lancers. The every present LC shifted behind the FR on Athies flank side and caused heavy damage to one LN, which the miltia lancers then put into square.
Command control looked grim for France at that point. French adjusted a bit causing some damage to Prussians in center. To keep FR in square, the LC (now at 1 block) shifted back to first square, but was destroyed by the CU unit, which met its own fate as it got hemmed in by the allied LN coming out of square and finishing it off.

Finally, the FR Grenadier forces were able to take the town for the 2 banners to finish the battle.

Luck of the dice was totally Allied.

Thanks for the game!

Round 5
Gonzo (French) 6 banners, 24 blocks; Tarheel 3 banners, 24 blocks

Tough fight. Saddled with probe lefts, French had only Right flank card guerillad at onset, but no more guerrilla cards drawn for Spanish. Spanish retreat was followed by French cav charge with mixed results, 1 Sp inf and cav, one fr cav dead. British push on their right chewed up French who could never get 1 hit on the redoubt. French block losses high but traded units. Ended game on good elan roll with inf leader forward and ca attack on exposes Br RL unit. Game ended with last row for French with numerous 1 and two point units and British right closing in.
Thanks for good game in difficult circumstances for Tarheel.

Round 2 Austerlitz
Gonzo (French) 8 banners 18 blocks lost - Mark McG (Allied) 3 banners 35 blocks lost
French assault on right mowed through Austrian militia and had luck in dueling Cav charges and neutralized Austrian Cav who ended up sitting in objective hexes for several turns to prevent earlier French win. Eventually French inf returned but could not get pesky Cossacks to stay out of town. Russian Hvy Cav assault on Right lead to disaster and final banner. Thanks to Mark for a good game. Dice pretty lop sided in this one.

Salamanca
Gonzo (French) 6 Banners and killed 37 blocks Shaqq 88 5 banners and killed 25 blocks.
Battle developed with much cavalry action on British left with after awhile the French got the worst of it. French put out some damage, but British effectively screened crippled units. French looked in dire shape until last turn withgreat inf rolls against cav and battlefield smoke obscuring British spoiling blow on right. Narrow victory and well played, thanks to Marco

Round 5: 118 Ordal Cross (13 September 1813)

Spanish: Bayernkini 4 Banners (27 blocks lost)
French: Mantra 6 Banners (26 blocks lost)

The battle started with the typical French push on their right to squeeze out the Spaniards, but with the activation being blocked by GA token. Play then shifted to the French left (no right cards). The French pushed into the forest with the goal of reaching the fortifications. The French were repeatedly pushed back from this goal. After several card plays for each Bayernkini scored the first Banner. Not to be out done, the French finally bounced back, with the aid of a +1 TC and tied the count up to 1 Banner each by taking the fortification. Bayernkini had no cards to counter on this and the French were able to get another banner.

Play continued mostly in the center with the French slow moving up and reorganizing and the Brits doing a lot of ranged fire. Things came to a head when the Brits committed to a British cavalry charge against the French build up in the center. The Brit LC's forced 2 LN units into to square, weaken them in the process. The French rose to the occasion and countered the LC on their next play and bagged both British LC's (4 to 3 banners in favor of the French). The Spanish took revenge for the Brits and eliminated the 1 pip French LN in square before being chased off. (4 banners each).

The French reorganized a bit, moving towards some weakened Spanish units, and picked up another banner on a grazing shot against the Spanish leader. The Brits tried to draw off the heat by the British pushing into the center against some weakened French units, but the French had the cards to mask them and then followed up with the Elan card to push against the weakened Spanish for the final banner and win.

Bayernkini played well (as he usually does) and to be totally honest I though was going to lose the game. The French dice weren't cooperating at the start and when ever they got some advantage it was quickly taken away by Bayernkini's dice, cards or play of GA's. The game didn't really shift until the loss of both British LC's. It was fun.

212 Borodino - Utitza (7 September 1812)

Shaq88 (Allies) - 7 banners (lost 28 blocks)
EZPickins (French) - 4 banners (lost 25 blocks)

It was a very tough scenario, both sides had ups and downs with dice.
Initially the Grand Armee tried to break through centrally and succeeded to enter the town, then russian Grenadiers came up to give help, but they were not really effective. After some skirmishes the Russians surrounded the French advanced center and held positions, but Napoleon's infantry was really headstrong and march against russian line making some victims. The turning point when Blue LN decide to make a melee attack from hills against Green Artillery, getting just one kill and receiving as battle back 4 casualties (very lucky shot). By that point Russians concentrated fire against single block units and got last two victory banners needed.

Thanks EZPickins, really well played game, just a bit unlucky!
