French Semi Finalists will be determined by their banner average, with a minimum number of 3 results in the count.
So for example, Stephen has 48 banners from 4 games, an average of 12. Togan (currently) has 31 banners from 2 games, his calculated average = 31/3 = 10.3

Epic final should be Epic and it was.

That was really weird, nervious and really hard games. So the result was also epic when winner was count not for banners but for blocks (difference is just 11).

Game 1
Andre (Allies) - 15 banners, 59 blocks lost
Gileforn (French) - 8 banners, 67 blocks lost

The first time of the game was fnatastic lucky for the French. Grand batteries in the center destroyed British arty and made all center clear for French. Forces on the right flank were gathered for waiting Prussians. Mainly battles were on the left flank, where a lot of infantry were placed in squares and were close for total destroy. All was changed when snipers pushed back all attacks staying in the wood and Guard cavalry came for help. Then infantry forces also coming. As a result french cavalry was destroyed and one block troops were saved. The rearguard make a push totaly destroying any attack forces there. Prussians came to the battlefield and finished all on the right.

Game 2

Gileforn (Allies) - 15 banners, 47 blocks lost
Andre (French) - 8 banners, 66 blocks lost

The second game went in an other way. French protected part of the poitions were Prussians should come on the right and trying to make some arty attacks in the center. Totatly center was really peacefull till the end. All was going same on the left, where rush attacks of cavalry and infantry were really hard. When Prussian army came it was partly destroyed by the attacks of young guard and situation became very dangerous for Allies. All was changed with second Prussian rearguard. Guards came between Prussian square and young guard, saving troop in the square. Elan attack smashed main attack forces on the French right. Also some important banners where got on the French left. Than French were very close to get 9th banner, but where not to much lucky. Allies on the turn finished with French troops on the left.

Thanks to Red Currant (Andre) for both epic battles, they were fantastic.

We have found some problems with logs, many times where mistake with "memory" as it said. So some of them could be broken or not full, anyway there are saves with final situation.

Thanks to Mark for organisation of the competition. It is really uneasy work. Also big thanks for all competitors.

play the Special Rules as written, ignore the commentary in the Forum discussion

Special Rules
• Hougoumont, La Haye Sainte and Papelotte (with blue border) are each
one Temporary Victory Banners Turn Start for the French player.
• Prussian Reinforcements:
The Allies player rolls 1 dice at start of each of his turn.
If no FLAG symbol, the timeline for the Prussian arrival increases by 1.
When the timeline reach 8: The Prussian reinforcements arrives.
The Prussians are: 3x LN, 2x RI, 2x LT, 1x GR, 2x LC, 1x HC, 1x LNCR, 1x HA
Plus 3 Leaders (Bülow, Ziethen, Blücher) and 3 Iron Will Markers.
The Allies player must setup the Prussians units and Leaders (attached) in any of the
grey marked hexes. If not enough room or by choice: The extra units can arrive during
the next rounds. The Prussians can then be ordered immediately using command cards.
* The brown units represent the Nassau, Brunswick, Hanover and Dutch units.
Use the brown blocks and apply all Portuguese rules for those Allied troops with
one exception: The brown LN retreats 2 hexes for each flag.

Are we playing a rule script that is on the or where are additional banners for the destruction of the guards?
Mark-McG replied the topic:

I tried here a very defensive strategy of retiring into the city and forcing the French to assault through the gates. This failed in several ways, mainly because I couldn't withdraw the units in the riverside suburbs quick enough, and where I did get advantage on the French, too many times it left 1 block to scamper away. In the end, the French artillery could always find a target outside the city walls, eventually engaging the units north of the river.

I also can't add the first file, it exceeds the 5MB attachment limit

I feel the scenario plays reasonably well, but needs balance provisions, on which I have 3 thoughts

Semi-final 2

Mark-McG (Allies) - 5 banners
Gileforn (French) - 16 banners

That was a really hard semi-final with lots of maneuverse by both sides. Firstly, Russian troops played from defence, tried to gather forces in the town. French troops were also very careful standing out of the line of attack from arty on the Russian left. The first French blood was gain after very risky LN attack that have destroyed FA by once. The next casualty was GFA that have moved inside suburbs of Smolensk. On the other hand, French destroyed a lot troops by shooting and pressing at the right and in the center. Finally some interesting attacks were with french cavalry at the right and after that Russian forces started to rush. That was risky but needs for the victory. Frensh lost LN and LC after these rushes and finsihed game with destroying final troops.

It have taken around 6 hours and a half.

Thanks to Mark for a very good playing that pressed me to think to much what to do.

the Russians were able to use their guardsmen and grenadiers in battles, pulling them up from the baseline with two maneuver cards.
The whole game was basically in the center and the right flank of the French, there was a funny situation about the destruction of Russian artillery on a hill across the river , dice fell out --art,saber,flag, exactly the same as in our last game when i played for the Russian

game 2 Smolensk

ANDRE(fr) 16---8 Gonzo(rus)

The game was very difficult for both players(it took about 6 hours in two approaches) the French chose a strategy for the battle -caution,did not hope for good dice, and so it happened

Allied Semi-Final 1
Mark McG (French) - 16 banners, 49 blocks lost
Gileforn (Russian) - 9 banners, 71 blocks lost

Initial turns were spend driving in the Russian pickets, especially in Roslavl and the annoying cossacks on the left. This in fact occupied the French left for far too long and they had difficulty getting into position from this distraction. On the right, the French cavalry pushed towards the river, clearing the Russian cavalry and artillery here at the cost of 3 cavalry. Also pressed the ravine, which was to be a battleground.

In the Centre, the French conducted a bayonet charge to the town outskirts, managing 3 banners for the cost of 1. They used LGM to exit to the rear as the Russian counter attacks swelled, but this ultimately left the centre weak. At this point the score was 6-5, but artillery fire from the French left and an infantry attack down the ravine into the suburbs of Rachevka brought the score up to 12-5.

Seeing the writing on the wall, the Russians charged in the centre, which the French managed to do a poor job of defence. Combined with some poor French rally and attack rolls, it too many turns for the left & right flanks to manage the 16th banner, by which stage the Russians had gathered 4 more in the centre.

2 sessions, 2.5 hours and 3.5 hours made this a gruelling match. Tough for the French to bring power to bear, and tough for the Russians to withstand the heat.

Sorry just saw that Andre played one extra game.

Yes, we were able to make a game as our missing opponents were both in Round 1, so we played each other twice in the tournament.

Mark. That was a game as we have spoken about in letters on 8 of December. Andre took part of Phillipe for Riwerwander. Riwer have taken part of Nemo for Andre
right.. got it.
Had some thought it was played as pairs, dunno why, I guess because I often play Epic as pairs.

what was the block count?
