Tarheel,

Always delighted to hear that new Epic scenarios are on the cards. Has anybody contemplated an epic Rolica scenario?

We both forgot to do it. I remembered with about 4 or 5 turns left so its just his bayonet charge and then my combined arms attack to get the 6th banner. The first one was the good one, had him 5 to 3 at one time but couldn't get cards or rolls to end it and he came back to win very intense game. Sorry

Do you have a log file from the second game? Having created this scenario, I love watching people play it :)

Game 1 was very exciting!

Game 2
Fench : Mantra ( 2 banners)
Prussians: Sansmerci (6 banners)
Sorry for the delays getting these games in. We also had a 14 hour time difference too. The action was 90% on the French left with the Prussians slowly breaking down the French and taking the town Klein Gorshen. Atimely rally card and a reform tactics really helped the Prussians. A Prussian LT must have been targeted 15 times and took 8 hits to kill after rallies and reforms. A French bayonet charge got the two banners for Chris but the Prussians got the 6th banner with a CA9 attack. Thanks to Chris for a very intense 1st game, then the vassel dice did him in on the second game.

French: sansmerci (5 banners)
Prussians: mantra (6 banners)
The long overdue matches finally were played. The match saw a lot of action in its earlier stages across the entire battle field with banners being matched evenly. In the middle game the French started to pull away with a lot of battle dice flying around the center and French left. The field was becoming very spent. In the last stage the banner count was 6-4 in the French favor and then is seemed the boys in blue lost all their momentum. The Prussians slowly started to erode the French unit base and were able to edge up the count to 6 even. A final Cavalry Charge gave the Prussians the win.

The game was well fought and very tense....the best way to play CCN.

Game 1
TLangston as French win 6-5 over Gonzo
Tight game with most of the action on the French left as the frequently healed Lt in the village gutted all the Prussian inf on that flank, never having a flag rolled against it. Final French cav charge killed an art and got final medal.
Game 2
Gonzo French over TLangston Prussians 6-4
Much closer than score. Early sniping on French left followed by a Prussian Cav charge against art got little. French bayonet charge in middle followed by elan put French up 5-2, but had several 1 pt units left when the Prussian Grenadiers joined the party. Prussians down 6-4 and pretty much guaranteed 2 banners the next turn. An inf forward leader card allowed French 1 pt LN and leader to pull up to 1 pt Prussian RI in woods and go for the 50-50 roll and got hit.
Excellent match and thanks to my opponent Tony. I am remodeling house and they broke pipes so Tony put up with a lot of distractions during the match.

I have the log file here - Prussians couldn't break through anywhere. French luck bad early, Prussian luck bad late. Late Bayonet Charge for French almost sealed the deal and Prussian counter attack in center made it close. Final Attack center won it for French.

Good game and tournament - Thanks all for the good games and good luck the rest of the way.

My mother in law passed away the day we where supposed to play March 28. I have been helping my wife since that time and would hope to play Mantra next week on the 11th or 12th. This was unexpected. I will see if we can play both games on the same day.

Hi Brad,

Yes, I remember that move - Gonzo made that move and I wondered about it afterward but didn't follow up on the rules. Thanks for the clarification. A very close scenario and actually a fun one to play. We will be playing the next one sometime this week. Will post here the time as you mentioned that you were interested in watching.

Thanks,
Tony

I enjoyed watching your replay. That was a close tense battle indeed!

I just wanted to point out a play error. At one point one of you moved a horse artillery unit adjacent to the village on the French left flank. You then made a combined arms attack using that Horse artillery with an artillery unit. This is not a legal attack. Combined arms must be initiated by cavalry or infantry and then you may add any eligible Artilery. See pages 18-19 of the rules.

QuarterFinal game 1:

tlangston28 (French) - 6 banners , 25 blocks lost
Gonzo (Prussian) - 5 banners, 32 blocks lost

This was a tense, close battle going down to the wire. Artillery fire started the action between both sides to very little damage. A Prussian push on the right was repelled and most of the rest of the contest was on the French Left and Center, with an heroic LT unit in Klein Gorschen that held off the continuous attacks and did finally manage the winning shot to kill a 1 block LNCR unit. They received the "Legion d'Honneur" from Napoleon... :-)

The pivotal point was when the French played a Coordinated Advance or Forward (can't remember which just now) which resulted in taking 7 blocks among the attacking rolls. A Prussian counterattack card netted only 1 block. From that point, it was a matter of maneuver until the end.

Very close game - thanks to Gonzo for the good game.

A close game v Mark and one where I played the odds but was thwarted by circumstances. To go out on blocks rather than banners is honourable I guess :-)

Anyway, thanks to everybody who gave up their free time to play me. Its something to be appreciated. I joined the tourney to better learn the Tactics cards as I had only used them a couple of times before. The tourney did its job in getting me to learn those better. I was also pleased to play what I consider to be the top 4 players and manage good results against them. It was a good test of 'where I am'.

Good luck to those remaining!

Game 1 result on recount was
Mark McG - French 3, 25 blocks lost
TheMP - Prussian 6, 19 blocks lost

so the end result was
Mark McG - 9 banners & 42 blocks lost
TheMP - 9 banners & 45 blocks lost

a victory (barely) snatched from the jaws of defeat.

OT QF Game 2

The MP - French 3 lost 26 blocks
Mark McG - Prussian 6 lost 17 blocks

have to re-check Game 1 log to get the result of blocks lost to determine the tie.

In a stroke of revenge, the Prussian Lancers who couldn't knock out a French artillery were looking down a combined arms 8 dice in riposte. When the dice settled, the only thing that came close was a Flag, which the Lancers Iron will had them refuse.

regardless of the outcome, it was a tense and exciting match, and played pretty quick.

FrenchricusRex (French) - Bayernkini(Prussian) - Game 1
3 - 6

Dont have a logfile, maybe Dave has one.

FrenchricusRex (Prussian) - Bayernkini(French) - Game 2
0 - 6

A failed "bluff" LGM move at start of the Prussians on their right, was bloody countercharged and after this, the french pressed further attacks on this prussian right side with less moves on center and right.

By recall my last turn roll was 3 hits + 1 flag on an unsupported Prussian Infantry out of 5 dice, and on play of a Inspired Infantry Leader to get a further 4 hits (to destroy the 1 block left). So really, it was a slightly better than average roll. It just looked really good compared to the rest.

by the way, anyone interested in playtesting early version, I am creating a vastly superior epic version of Lützen, to cover the whole battle. I actually think this particular battle needs an epic map to do it justice.

jeez.. 26

Yeah Mark, I counted them back. That's why I asked for the logfile straight after the game as I knew it was an extreme. For instance, remember, when they began their approach and first came into range? You used an artillery to fire at them with under a Bombard card. That was another 4 dice there that produced just a flag. That one was Iron Willed as I needed them to go forward to attack those 1 blockers. So all in all, with fire and melee dice, it was a total of 26 cubes!

I recollect at least 8d vs this unit whist it was unsupported with no retreat path, so any flag was cactus.

OT QF Game 1

Mark McG - French 3
TheMP - Prussian 6

Not going to write up the battle as the logfile is here. But the 'highlights'? Well, it was a game of extremes in cards and dice!

CARDS

Prussians lose their best cards at start as French can look at them and throw them away by scenario special rule at start.
Prussians never had a multi-sector command card throughout the whole game.

DICE

Prussians good dice at opening for their first 3 turns, and closing turns. Dreadful in the middle including a 17 dice Fire and Hold producing just 2 hits.

French awful dice throughout really. They did get a good roll in their very last turn, but hard to think of any others at all.
