Historical Background
King Sargon of Akkad became famous for creating the first empire in history. He conquered the city-states of Sumer, uniting the whole of Mesopotamia for the first time. After becoming king of Akkad, Sargon first subordinates the cities of northern Mesopotamia. Then he begins to expand to the south, where the Sumerian king Lugalzagesi ruled at that time. After Lugalzagesi's refusal to become related to him through a diplomatic marriage, Sargon proceeds to military action. In the 5th year of his reign, Sargon moved south and quickly defeated the army of Lugalzagesi and the armies of the "fifty ensi" under his control. Apparently, in this conflict, many local rulers remained loyal to Lugalzagesi for a long time, which in turn means that his supreme power was not too heavy. Lugalzagesi was captured and sent to the city of Nippur. There he was led in brass fetters in a solemn procession through the gates of the god Enlil, after which he was probably executed.
The scenario shows what a battle between the army of Akkad and the army of Uruk might look like.
