The Battle of Versinikia was fought in 813 between the Byzantine Empire and the Bulgarian Empire and despite being outnumbered 2 to 1, the Bulgarians led by Krum were victorious. In the day of the battle, the Byzantines decided to attack and the right Byzantine flank under Aplakes engaged the Bulgarians’ left but the Byzantine center and left did not engage in the battle, thus leaving Aplakes’ attack unsupported. When Krum saw the inaction among the Byzantine center and left, he took action and flanks Aplakes' contingent from two sides. The Byzantines left flank and center witdraw and the soldiers of Aplakes were left behind and most of them perished, including their commander. When the Bulgarians were certain that the enemy was fleeing in panic, their heavy cavalry rushed after the Byzantines. Some of them perished during the flight, others hid in different fortresses some of which were taken by the Bulgarians and the rest managed to reach Constantinople.

2 comments;

1. If you leave the Nation plaques on the image, you won't have to specify the retreat direction (and we assume North is top). If you hold CNTRL and click in the plague, you can edit the Label

2. 3 Command is very hard to play, and my experience is people dislike scenarios with 3 Command. Perhaps consider 1 extra Command to each side (6 vs 4) rather than 5 vs 3.

Thanks for the advices. I played this scenario two times solo and it was a pleasant experience with 3 and 5 cards. But you are right, for two players is better with 4 and 6 cards, so i made two variants: 2 players and solo play.
