The second game between toganalper (french) and Soul1st (Autrıan)

ToganAlper 6 : Soul1st 3

The French attacked from both flanks the Austrıans were fast to recover and reform. Twan played very nice and took Obersandıng. Our game was unfortunately interrupted several times due to glitches ın the Vassal. I have never encountered so many problems before with vassal. Neither in CCA or CCN. It was very dıffıcult to even concentrate losing the cards and the tac cards etc. At some point we were really lost track of the flow. Anyway we managed to get both games done in the last day before deadline. Thanks to Twan for the great game and patience.

Complete reverse for the second match. There were a lot of vassal issues for this game.

310 Eggmuhl Day 1
Game 1

ToganAlper Austrian: 3
Soul1st French 6

Austrians attacked strongly in the center but were repulsed and lost a lot of units. This and unlucky rolling from the Austrians saved the French.

310 Eggmuhl Day 1
Game 1
Bangla (Fr) 6 banners
christhibault (Aus) 2 banners

Game 2
christhibault (Fr) 6 banners
Bangla (Aus) 3 banners

In both games the decisive action centred around Obersanding. Game #1 was a more patient build-up, until the French took the town using Sappers, and then fought off the Austrian cavalry in that sector before winning the game by stealth in the centre. The game took the best part of 2 hours.
In game #2, after the Austrians played a Forced March card to move troops in the centre, the French counter-attacked and used it to blast their way past Obersanding on their left, wiping out two Austrian units in the process. From then on it became a battle to see if the Austrians could somehow squeeze out three banners and so win the aggregate point. They did, just, before the inevitable happened with their units fleeing off the board in their right rear. Game #2 lasted only 50 minutes!
Both games were played in great spirit between Chris and myself, and I really enjoyed the Sunday afternoon's gaming, even if he was rather brutal in the second game :)

This scenario is a tough one for the Austrians with only 4 command cards. For the most part the Austrians could only react to the French as they peppered the end units causing block loses and retreats. A French Force March killed the last two to end it. Thanks again to Chris for setting up the matches we had a 14 hour time difference.

Thanks for the kind words John. I don't know abut the better player part - I thought you did great. Disconnect problems with Vassal have plagued me from time to time. I talked to a computer guy about it and he said that when dealing with peer-to-peer play on the internet, things such as firewalls, security software, etc can cause problems. I am getting a new computer, should arrive on December 12. I am hoping that will take care of most if not all of the Vassal issues.
It was quite fun playing against you, in spite of the technical issues. I have issued an order to all my troops to go through their ammunition and make sure it is clean and the powder is dry, as their shooting was abysmal. It is either that, or you have gone back in time and issued Kevlar vests to all of your troops.
This scenario appears to favor the French, although there have been a couple of Austrian wins in this tournament.

310 Eggmuhl Day 1
Game 1
EZPickins (Fr) 6 banners
Proyce (Aus) 0 banners

Game 2
EZPickins (Aus) 6 banners
Proyce (Fr) 3 banners

Both games saw the majority of the action around Obersanding. The dice and tactical cards favored me and allowed me to win although I think Phil was the better player. His sound tactics were foiled by poor shooting on many occasions. He was very patient as well with Vassal disconnect problems the entire time. I hope to play him again under better conditions.

The French had great tactics cards First Strike, Infantry Combat First, and Canister which Chris used them effectively and probably would have won if some of his rolls where better. The action was mainly in the center and back and forth with the banner count at 4 each. The Austrians killed a two block LN in melee and then got a great four hit roll on four dice to end the match. The French would have won on the next turn for sure. Thanks to Chris for a nail biter we have a second game to play next week.

it is possible, but I don't recall any Tactician card play that made a significant difference, except possibly in the first game with the Austrians using Inspired Leadership to get the only Austrian banner.

But once the other results roll in, the picture may change

Hi Mark, I wonder if the scenario is more even using the original 70 card deck and no tactician cards - I know that is the setup I was using when I played it. Two extra tac cards can make a difference. I don't know how many games were played and results posted using which card set up.

Game 1
Austrian (Mark McG):1
French (plainscape): 6

French Bayonet charged straight into Obersanding. Austrians came forwards on their left, and managed to take their sole banner here before being destroyed. French then annihilated the Austrian right flank as it attempted to take back the village. Game time, 40 minutes.

Game 2
Austrian (plainscape): 0
French (Mark McG): 6

French started with 5 Centre cards (of 5), and ergo attacked up the centre. French Light infantry ate up the Grenzers and an Austrian infantry on the Right.
By this stage I had the cards to respond to the Austrians taking Obersanding and booted them out, knocking off 2 Line in the doing. Austrians responded in the centre, and had a close call with the front most French Light before snatching the final banner on the Left.

Not sure why this scenario has such a close balance rating, because the French seem quite capable here.
