Round 2 - Auerstadt
French (RiverWanderer) - 10 banners, 34 blocks lost
Prussians (Giulio) - 7 banners, 41 blocks lost
The French opened up with an assault on Hassenhausen and soon gained control of the town, with Leadership (x2) driving the Prussians back and taking 3 Prussian units for little loss, despite counter-measures. In response the Prussians developed an attack between the central ridge and Speilberg. This was repulsed, but at the very unfortunate loss of two leaders (Friant and Gautier).
Now a Prussian Grande Manoeuvre shifted the focus even further to the French Right, which the French responded to with Counter Attack to re-balance the position. So began a desperate fight on this flank, with the French barely holding on in the face of a strong Prussian force and both sides having to retreat weakened units or lose them. Overall, the battle was even on this flank and with a high casualty rate.
The battle in the centre and on the French left continued to develop. Prussian Artillery was pushed back from the centre, as the French strengthened their control over Hassenhausen, aided by two Grand Battery actions. On the French left, the Prussians surged forward aiming to overwhelm the relatively light forward French forces in that section. However, the French units proved resilient and in this section the final banner fell to give victory to the French.
Thanks to Giulio for a good game!
We struggled with Vassal bugs during the first half of the game ... a corrupted hand state that results in one or more cards being duplicated between the two players' hands. One discards, both players lose that card from their hand. It settled down after several shutdown/re-synchs. I think I have managed to recover a coherent log file.
