My idea is to reduce the gaminess of banner hunting.
A few reasons why:
I don't like the fact that Militia is worth the same amount of victory points as the Old Guard.
The way the end game can sometimes play out, whereas a person could have the entire enemy army running amok on your side of the board, but all you have to do is kill that last Light Cavalry block to win.
The way all objectives are worth the same and are not given more gravity in determining victory/defeat.
And lastly, that committing one's elite units to battle bears no consequence. By that I mean they are treated more like modern day battle tanks and not the LIMITED precious commodity that they historically were.
So my idea is to instead provide a point value to each individual block. I haven't completed the play testing on this, so I don't have exact numbers yet.
My tentative list is close to this:
All Militia= 1 point each.
Port. Line=2 points each.
French Line, British Line, Port. Light Inf and Any Light Cavalry=3 points each
French Light Inf, British Light Inf, and all regular Heavy Cavalry=4 points each.
Foot Artillery, Officers, French Young Guard, British Rifles and French Cuirassiers=5 points each.
All Grenadier Infantry, all Guard Heavy Cavalry, and all Horse Artillery=6 points each.
French Old Guard Infantry, French Guard Foot Artillery, and British Guard Grenadier Infantry=7 points each.
Objectives are subjective to scenario. Minimum value would be 20 points.
Also, some officer would most likely warrant higher values, i.e. Wellington, Napoleon etc. Unfortunately this has minimal impact on the victory conditions.
Basically how it works is each side adds up all block point totals. First by unit,(i.e. French and British Line Infantry=12 points per unit). Then adding up the total points of their units. Adding any objective points to that sum. They then divide that total by the number of units/objectives for their respective side in that scenario. This gives them an average point total per unit/objective. lastly, multiply that average by the number of banners needed to win the scenario. This is how many points are needed to win that scenario.
Note: The totals will more then likely be different, so each side will need to keep track of their own.
A couple of ideas I've been kicking around are a bonus for eliminating an entire unit,(5 point banner award).
Removing points for "Committing the Guard".
Any input is most welcome.
