Game 2
Scenario: MD16 Hanau (30 October 1813)
Mark McG (French): 8 banners
sansmerci (Allies): 0 banners

I came in knowing I had to win this big, and could afford very few losses. So I played pretty conservatively, shuffling units back from the front as they took losses.
The French have a great advantage with the Bavarians trapped against the river, and the French in favourable terrain. So after initially adjusting my right flank to strengthen it, I began to encroach the centre. The Bavarian infantry then charged, taking losses but seeking some kills to clinche the overall win.
At this point it became apparent that the dice weren't cooperating for Steve, and I was able to limp away after knocking him about.
Not really according to my plan, I picked up Cavalry charge, which turned the game. French cavalry charged up my Right, and rolled tremendously well to clean the Allied cavalry away, with the Allied riposte totally missing, and the French follow up pushed the score up to 7-0, including a Bavarian leader (Lamotte) who was forced to evade into the river and so perished.

At this point I suspected the dice would turn, but a forced march up the centre garnered me a quick 8th banner, ironicaly in the same river bend corner that I lost the previous match.

Tough game for Steve, he never got a break with the dice. I was on tenterhooks the whole match because of the low number of losses I could take. The French should usually win this scenario, but by how much is the question.

So with some mild embarrassment, I declare myself the winner of the 2016 tournament!
Thank you all for your efforts in making this happen, and some great matches. Vince in particular was hard done by to lose the Semi-Final by 3 blocks!

Hope you all can participate in the next Open

I always say if ya gonna lose by a whisker, do it against the eventual winner!

Gives plenty of opportunities of "If onlys" to ones conversation :-)
