An actually new clarification of the Rocket Battery (because of some situations in the current MT).

Q: Is the Rocket Battery a kind of artillery and can i order it with Command Cards, which refers explicit to any Artillery units (Bombard, Cavalry Charge e.g.)?
Further can i use all Tactician Cards for the Rocket Battery, which refers also to Artillery (Artillery Canister, Artillery Combat Bonus, Artillery Reposition)?

[strike]A: A Rocket Battery is not classified as an Artillery unit and therefore will not benefit from Command and Tactician cards that refer to artillery.
Cards that will modify a Rocket Battery combat are Tactician cards as “Battle Back Bonus”,
Command Cards “Elan”, "Leadership" and "Give Them The Cold Steel" e.g.

In regard to the sentence –
In ranged combat, a Rocket Battery always rolls 2 dice unless increased by an appropriate Tactician card.
A better wording of this line would have been - In combat, a Rocket Battery always rolls 2 dice unless increased by an appropriate Command card. Currently there are only two Command cards that modify a Rocket Battery range combat “Elan” (Only Flags to order) and “Leadership”.

As I am and some others said already, the Rocket Battery rules seems done to complicated, it dissents the general simple and easy ruling of the C&C games.

Yeah, the Rocket Rules do seem unnecessarily complicated. I do not think it would have broken the game or been thematically unacceptable to just make them another type of artillery, except where noted (2 die any range, must roll two matching symbols for a hit).

Its have been better, you have it called "Rocket Artillery" and applied all rules, which refers to Artillery,
My RB suggestions a few years ago was

- Unit strength 2 blocks (maybe, it´s to weak, must test it during games, then grow up also to 3, like ohter ART).
Is in the official rules, 3 block Rocket Battery

- Moves 1-2 hexes OR battles 2-2-2-2-2;
Is also in the official rules now

- (Additional rule to test: Can fire over ALL own units, not only adjacent, except on combined attacks).

Is similar in the official rules, can fire over all units/terrain (need no LOS).

- Only flag results counts, but flags cannot be ignored!

Particulary in the official rules: Flags cannot be ignored.

So it´s would been much easier and clear,
if the Rocket Battery would have only 4-5 special rules (as above), which apply in range and melee combat,
and it is classiefied as Artillery,so all corresponding TC´s and CC´s rules apply.

The rules say, "In melee a Rocket Battery follows the same rules as a Horse Artillery unit."

What exactly does that mean? Does it mean that you now ignore all the rules that begin with "In ranged combat,…" So in melee you now only need one unit icon or saber icon to score a hit? And terrain dice modification now happens. And enemy target can ignore flag roles.

1. In melee you have a "Horse Artillery" with 2 battledice (indifferent of block numbers).

2. in range all rules apply which numerated in rulebook with the additonal "range" word.

3. The rocket battery rules are sadly so complicated, that i would prevent to play with it and i hope, Richard
revise this rules more playable again!

I understand your answer and agree with your perspective on these new rules. At the risk of beating a dead horse one other question crossed my mind after my initial post. Rule says line of sight is not needed for ranged combat. I assumed this meant firing over terrain; but does it also include firing over friendly/enemy units? Thanks.

In ranged combat, a Rocket Battery does not require line of sight to target an enemy unit.

This simple means, nothing block the LOS, neither any terrain nor any units.

After another discuss with Richard about the complexity of the Rocket Battery rules
i could achieve a small partial succes and a revoking of this clarification above.

A better wording of this line would have been - In combat, a Rocket Battery always rolls 2 dice unless increased by an appropriate Command card and/or Tactician card.
