Break The Square - Battalion Mass

Does the Break The Square card apply to the Austrian Battalion Mass? Obviously these rules were written before the advent of the Tactician cards and therefore have no reference to the BtS card. In the 'Mass' rules, it is to be treated like a square except where shown in the Mass rules. But the BtS card refers only to squares. I can see an answer either way, but wondered whether there has been anything on this before from Richard.

Battalion Mass is a kind of square too, with the exception, the unit don´t need to provide a command card.
So break the square has the same impact to a unit in "battalion mass" as to a unit into "regular" square.

When a player chooses to have an Austrian line infantry unit form Battalion Mass, the attacking cavalry player will not select a Command card at random from the hand of the player. Instead, a Battalion Mass counter is placed on the infantry unit’s hex to indicate the unit is in square. All other unit in square rules will still apply to the infantry unit in a Battalion Mass square.

Carefull reading rules should answer question too.

"Careful reading rules should answer question too"

And careful reading of question too.

Remember I said in the question "The Austrian rules were written BEFORE the Tactician Rules". This means that although the battalion mass has all the actions of a square before the Tactician box, it MIGHT not have been the case in the Break the Square card now. That's why the question was asked.

Anyway, the first part of your answer is what I was after so thanks for that.

We had another "similar" question about rules, before TC´s coming and short answer of Richard was
"We keep all rules straightforward as written" and only if the "strict" written rules can´t play with new rules, we need a FAQ!

Therefore the Battalion Mass was, is and is still kept as square with all rules, refering to square (straightforward as written)
