When a Leader can not escape

Hi everybody, sorry if this question was post on the former forum... We have a case last friday during the battle of Medellin : A french Leader of my opponent was adjacent to 2 hexagones of an unfordable river and had to flee my spanish Cavalry. With no path to escape, we decided that he has fallen on the Field of Honour. Were we right ? (for the anecdoct, I rolled a dice before and obtained a Saber, so maybe he died twice !!) . Thank you for your answers. Greetings from Le Mans

I hope, this question need no post in any earlier oder other forum ;)

Rulebook, page 14, left colum.. (Leader escape section)

• Terrain that is not impassable has no effect on retreat moves,
therefore a retreating leader may move onto or through a forest,
a fordable river, etc., without stopping. Impassable terrain will
prevent a retreat movement, and a leader unable to retreat one
hex due to impassible terrain will be eliminated.
The opponent
gains one Victory Banner when the leader is eliminated.

My dice are the hell!

RTFM !

Thank you Bayern (I think that I had asked on the other forum) !

It seemed logical but sometimes (has my comrade Leboucher said ), rules are counter-intuitive...

Vive l'Empereur !
