Can I play an Ambush card as the attacker to trump the Ambush card played by the Defender?
Play this card after opponent declares a close quarters combat, but before the dice are rolled.
Your defending unit will battle first with 1 additional die. If the attacking unit is not eliminated or forced to retire, it may then combat as originally ordered. Your unit may not battle back against this unit’s attack.
Aside from the clear reference to attacker and defender in the card text, only the Attacker can declare a Close Combat, ergo only the Defender can play the Ambush card.
