#39. For this scenario Judd and I have elected to play it with scenario 40 as a mini-campaign via the rules that are used in the scenario book. This will allow us to carry over the fruit of our battle to have impact in the second battle. This scenario has a temporary banner for majority control of the hills in front of the river.

I thought I would be able to dislodge Judd (Red) from the hills but that proved to be very difficult and in the end Judd kept the temporary banner throughout the game. I opened up a center attack and moved up my cav to help support. I did make some progress on the hill, but it was slow. I drew a Personal Challenge card and realized I had a good shot to kill his leader Kaimio. My mounted leader Tadamasa would have an advantage being superior status. When we tallied up the odds I was rolling 10 dice looking for swords, and Judd was rolling 4. I only rolled one sword, and Judd none. A very close roll. The net result was that Kaimio was killed, and Judd lost a card from his hand.
This was a good outcome, but I did not get a banner from it. But it added a lot of flair to the game. However, Tadamasa was think in the battle and died later in battle. Judd was now up 2-1 since he still held the hill.

We mixed it up on the hill and Judd brought up his Samurai from the back row which gave him more support. I was hampered by a hand of cards that was heavy on the 1 and 2 cards. It was hard to coordinate my attacks. Judd was able to push me away from the hill and charge with his leader Goto attached to a foot samurai. Goto's unit was killed, and he had to retreat, but Judd was out of honor. Goto decided to commit Seppuku and not lose honor. Judd lost another card from his hand, but I did not get a banner. I was able to kill another unit making it 4 banners each. Judd was then able to get one more shot to win the game. The rolled 3 dice on a one-block unit and missed. But then he pulled out the Dragon Card Spirit of Kishijoten which allowed him to re-roll. He got his sword and one the game 5-4.
