Scenario List: A General Thread

Good question.

My inclination would be to go for the easiest-to-execute solution. These could include the options you list, and/or perhaps one or more of these:

1) Add the "codename" you suggested--"(TOI FFG)," etc.--to the file name.

2) In the "ToI Scenario Statistics FULL" table, there could be a new column that included the "codename" you suggested--"(TOI FFG)," etc.--to denote the version.

3) On the pages for each scenario (i.e., "001 At The Breaking Point"), there could be a line of text near the top of the page--something like "Version: Tide of Iron Next Wave edition (TOI NW)," "Version: Unofficial fan-created," etc.

4) On the "Downloads" pages, include a brief version statement like idea #3 above.

I'm definitely in favor of retaining all the scenarios, even if they exist in updated/refined versions (orig FFG compared to NW, for example). But, I'm a nerd and a completist!

I should have added: If you'd like help updating the Google Sheet containing this data, let me know. I've updated my Excel file with the CnC ID numbering system and the notes you provided regarding the scenarios that are missing or in-progress, and I also have all the sources of each scenario included in my file, so updating the Google Sheet with the most effective & efficient solution above should be straightforward.

Hi James,
1) and 2) will come at the same time (with the same fix).
3) could be easily reached adding a "Version" TAG.
I'll make a try and let you know to see the results.
4) it will be more difficult, but if we keep the code name there will be no possibility of making mistakes when searching for a specific scenario.

Yes, please.
Feel free to add columns and fill the table with the missing contents.

Looking at the Scenario Statistics page , I don't see scenario #227 listed. However, looking at the Google Sheet, scenario #227 is the same as #226, with a slightly different title--"The Merville Battery Assault" (227) rather than "The Merville Battery" (226).

You are right,
maybe we can fill the missing number with one of the latest scenarios... I haven't published them yet.
  • Battle of Nijmegen Part 1
  • D-Day -1: Sainte-Mère-Église
  • Destroy the Guns
  • Spear Tip (Kursk Northern Front)
  • Meeting Engagement Version 1
  • Meeting Engagement Version 2

I've jsut added a new column on the Google Sheet to show actual TAG "Complexity".
I've grabbed it from an old PDF file on BGG.

It would be great to fill this one too...

Complexity: Low
Minimal special rules and/or units; usually (but not always) uses fewer map boards, overlays, and/or markers; generally, of shorter duration (.5-2 hours); often designed for beginners or those with a limited time to play.

Complexity: Medium
Some special rules and/or units; often (but not always) uses many map boards, overlays, and/or markers; generally, of average duration (2-4 hours).

Complexity: High
Significant special rules and/or units; often highly customized; often (but not always) uses many map boards, overlays, and/or markers; generally, longer in duration (4-plus hours).

I've just added all TAGs/images to each scenarios.
I've used the infos on the Google Sheet.
www.commandsandcolors.net/tideofiron/scenarios/tag-search.html

All TAGs are shown just below each scenario image and are linked to similar scenario (based on the clicked tag).

Please let me know if it works.

I thought I'd share the results of some of the work I've been doing over the past couple years to collate and track ToI scenarios. I've been pleased to see this online resource at Commands and Colors collecting and organizing ToI scenarios, and feel that these two efforts complement one another very well.

I use my tracking system as a hard-copy index for scenarios, which I print-out and have organized in binders. From the structured data file, I can do more than just have a chronological and alphabetical index of scenarios--I can also provide graphics like these to help my friends and I decide which scenario(s) to play, given the time we have available to play (which is often limited). It's also interesting to me to see how the scenarios array across time, by faction, by theater, and by relative complexity.

I found that there were a lot of scenarios that did not specify a date. Where this was the case, I assigned a year and month, so I could slot it into my chronological index and chronologically-organized binders. Without exception (as I recall), fans created these from the foundation of the original ToI base game, meaning the scenarios pitted the Americans against the Germans and would have generically been set in the period June 1944 through April 1945. So, I spread them out over that date range.

My tracking spreadsheet from (which I derived these charts) do not contain the following scenarios [for reasons denoted in brackets]:
  • "Defending Hell's Highway," "Traitors!!!," and the six-scenario "Operation Market Garden" campaign [Alessandro reported that he found these scenarios mentioned online, but hasn't yet found the PDFs].
  • Six-scenario "Ardennes Offensive" campaign [this is a large, sprawling campaign that spans 61 PDF pages and also includes a 2.5-page errata document. I'm not confident it's been play-tested, and I don't have interest in ensuring I have the most recent version downloaded; integrating the errata; and re-configuring the PDF to be more user-friendly and take up fewer pages. Thus, I'm not going to work on this or print it out].
  • "Operation Encore - Riva Ridge" and "Operation WinterGewitter" [currently these are works-in-progress, not yet added to this website].
  • Fourteen scenarios in the "Skirmish Mode" series [These constitute a new game system using ToI maps, figures, and tokens, but significantly modifying ToI rules and mechanics. Includes large, complex maps that look interesting but would lead to long playing times].
These charts do, however, contain three scenarios I am currently building. I hope to have them ready for play testing soon. One is set in East Africa in early 1941, pitting Italian and Royal Colonial troops against British Commonwealth forces. Two are set during the German invasion of Norway, April/May 1940, allowing an interesting combination of Allied units (Norwegians, Brits, Poles, and French) pitted against the Germans (including Alpine and Kriegsmarine troops).

Thus, considering the caveats above regarding what my tracking sheet includes and does not include, my tracking system incorporates 259 ToI scenarios as of today. This website lists 294 scenarios.
