Round 1
Scenario 418 Ligny
Scipio (Allies) 11 Banners won, 22 blocks lost
EZ Pickens (French) 5 Banners won, 39 blocks lost

Tense game with lots of brutal range combat but France wasn't able to move up their forces in enough strength and a double cav charge ended it conclusively for Prussia. I have only fragments of the log due to being logged out and playing over 2 sessions.

Okay, so I went crazy and played three matches in 24 hours. Nice.

Earlier today had the pleasure of Bayernkini's company at Ligny.

Ligny
P418

Tarheel - Allies - 11 Banners (40 blocks lost)
Bayernkini - French - 9 Banners (42 blocks lost)

Initially Prussians shifted some back line forward, minor adjustments in the middle up front in failed attempt to skirmish. Cavalry shifted to allied right flank. The French captured Wagnelee with LC immediately at start, and prepared a central push to take St. Amand. Prussians defended from a distance, withdrawing in face of overwhelming French forced march strength. Pickets managed to kill a FA across Ligny Brook which threatened Ligny, but mostly things were silent on that flank at first. Prussians charged with prepared cav on both flanks, with good success on their right, but disaster on the left (FS demolished the Lancers). A secondary charge on the allied right managed to put that flank in disorder and eliminate french cav presence there, also forcing square on a couple of units. Continued cavalry flank attacks along with ART support had success in destroying weakened units. At that point Prussian cav was finally exterminated and action swung back to center and FR right flank as PR strength tried to shift from their right towards center. Battle finally ended in the center with weakened units on both sides duking it out for the lucky shot.

Crazy cards in this one, with the Prussians getting 4xCav charge and the French having Elan x 2, Bayo x 2, Leadership x 3, First Strike x 2. I think we saw about every special card there was.

Bayernkini was kind enough in the endgame to educate and caution me about VP banner error I was about to make exiting St. Armand for the final attack. Always the gentleman.

This battle was anyone's to win with good dice in the end.

My second match of the day was with General Grondeaux.

Plancenoit P419

Tarheel - Allies - 9 Banners (26 blocks lost)
Grondeaux - French - 7 Banners (37 blocks lost)

This battle was strange. Initial hand for Prussia were all specials except a scout center. And most of these specials were not of much help to start (Bayo, Cav Chg, Fire and Hold, Rally, scout c). So, for lack of anything better to do, went for it and did a Fire and Hold attacking the most advanced French on turn 1. Well, those boys did not get the chance to retreat, but instead were demolished along with the leader. 2 banners turn 1! Next, Prussia drew another not very useful card, so used the Bayo Charge and got mixed results, but did severly weaken the guard artillery. Some unit exchanges took place, but the guard art was removed from board in the shuffle. Well from that point on, it became crazy. The Prussian artillery seemed to be everywhere, picking units off at range until the FR decided enough was enough and maneuvered remaining OG and YG units to the center. They did a Bayo charge to great effect! 7 dice against a full strength Prussian was ugly, and the Prussian LN unit was vaporized. Unfortunately, it was exactly at that time that Prussia had drawn its second Bombard card, and hit the OG unit from range 2 and 3 with ART units in revenge. Ouch. The game soon ended. Prussia had 2 cav charges in hand, one from start of game, but could never really get cards to move anything on the right until the last couple of turns, but by then things were commited in the center. Oh, and it was a terrible day to be a Leader. Leaders took some lead in the arse.

Thanks Grondeaux for playing!

Round 2

014 Quatre Bras

Theimann (Allies) 1 Banners won, 36 blocks lost
plainscape (French) 9 Banners won, 16 blocks lost

The French began by attacking the left flank, driving off the Dutch (?) artillery. On a lucky break, the French Lights then manage to attack the left again and kill a Dutch Line and it's leader. Stunned, the Allied forces shuffled and reorganized their lines while moving up the heavier Guard Grenadier and later re-positioning many of their artillery for better firing. After some exchange of fire, the British rifle move up on their left flank, putting them dangerously close to the French line. The French move up to assault on their right and receive fire as well as give it, luckily taking little casualties. Then, they charge right in and manage to take out the rifles. (As well as dispatching an already wounded line in the center flank with arty fire.) The British respond with furry combining attacks on the French Line who took out the rifle. But, alas, this would be the only banner the British would win in this fight. (Current score 4 to 1) Meanwhile on the left flank, the French Light units in the woods manage to get the jump on some Dutch Militia and the French Curaissiers begin to approach the battle. The British move some of their units in the rear forward. The French respond by having the Curassier cross the river, putting them dangerous close to their infantry and the French lights open fire on the approaching Brittish Guard Grens. The Guards approach the French position but are unable to attack because of woods. The Dutch lights do open fire and cause damage. This sets up a massive attack on the Left Flank from the French who send their cavalry charging into the Dutch lines in the center and one of the Light units move in to attack the cavalry. The cavalry manage to escape, leaving the lights next to British arty and the cavalry cause much damage to the Dutch lines. But they hold for now. The British try to drive off the oncoming Curassier with their own cavalry. But, they do not do enough damage to drink them away. Then, finally the French player plays, "Give them cold steal" getting bonus dice on the arty with the lights, on the cav with the curassier and on the line with the light cav. All these attacks succeed and the curassier then use their bonus attack on the British arty, slaying all opposition and winning 4 banners in just that last turn. Overall, it was almost a complete route.

This was the very first game I've won in this tournament!

Round 4

420 Wavre
EZPickins (French) 8 banners won, 10 blocks lost
Tarheel (Allies) 1 banner won, 20 blocks lost

The French were unstoppable due to good rolls on my side versus bad rolls and poor cards for the Allies. The Allies did the best they could in a very difficult situation. This is a super difficult scenario for them even with good luck.

Round 3 015 Waterloo
Mark McG (French) 8 banners won, 5 blocks lost
MichalK (Allies) 0 banner won, 27 blocks lost

One of those games where one card makes a huge difference. A French Bayonet Charge took Papelotte eliminating the LT, and also took La Haye Sainte, with the Old Guard (and they are a huge pleasure to Bayonet Charge with!!!).

The OG them shrugged off every counterattack, and dealt out death and destruction. The finale was an Elan card that eliminated 3 further Allied units. End result, captured Papelotte & LHS, and eliminate 6 Allied units.
