Round 6 504 Göhrde (18 September 1813)

charlesCab (French) 2 banners 28 blocks lost
plainscape (Allies) 8 banners 18 blocks lost

After some initial preparation and distraction, the allies launched a massive attack in the center that they never let up on. In game terms, I played a bayonet assault, forced march and then assault center. The French had no center cards and even the bayonet charge they played in response was just me with a counter attack. The allies took their hits, but not before seizing the center, victory and glory.

Round 3 011 Salamanca (Attack on the French Right) (22 July 1812)
Allies: Mark McG 6 banners (17 blocks lost)
French: EZ Pickens 3 banners (29 blocks lost)

Armies start well apart in this one, which gives some time to set prepare your troops and hand for the action.
English adjusted their flanks, and advanced on their Left. Had 2 Bombard cards to use, but the French kept on slinking out of sight.

Having advanced and engaged on the left, the action got fierce, and the Left cards dried up. English conducted a Bayonet Charge up the centre and right to try and reset the battle away from the left, Both did well, but ultimately it was the Centre that carried forward with back to back Forced Marches, pushing the remaining French infantry off the hill. Just as well, because the left still looked desperate.

A bloody infantry battle, 1 artillery and 1 cavalry block lost, the rest were infantry, and all the banners were infantry units.

Round 6 504 Göhrde (18 September 1813)

EZPickens (French) 5 banners 28 blocks lost
Tarheel (Allies) 8 banners 20 blocks lost

In short, this was a crazy battle.

Initial Allied draw had cards all but useless (only section card was a recon right), forcing an early F&H play, which rolled 4 hits to kill the advanced FR LT. A little light cannon fire from FR in response was followed by a LGM, shifting troops on Allied right to the village area. FR advance to their village on that side as well. Next, Allies attack with 2 cav and the HA against the FA on hill (the supporting INF had been forced a retreat from the rockets on turn one). This led to the FA being destroyed, and the LN unit behind hill that ran from rockets being beat down to 2. From there we had a situation where most of each of our command cards disappeared, and we had to redraw. I was so fortunate as to lose some good cards and draw a bunch of left flank, yuck. Had just enough to retreat HA which took a pot shot at LN on hill and took out the remaining 2 blocks (it had earlier reformed) and the leader. Next several turns saw the allies make a second deep incursion with HA and cav combined arms weakening some FR LN, but in response, the FR battled back with success to stabilize the flank after a mostly anticlimactic allied bayo charge. Actions eventually moved to the opposite flank and GR was destroyed by cav, which eventually met their own fate. All in all, it was messy and chaotic and we saw 3 leaders killed and one retreated off the map. Luck was with allied dice most of the game and EZPickens played excellent defense against the luck. I was fortunate to get the 8 banners first, very fortunate.

Thanks for the fun game despite the oddness.

Round 3
Salamanca (attack on FR right)

Allies - Tarheel - 6 banners (22 blocks lost)
French - Sansmerci - 4 banners (33 blocks lost)

The battle started with British push in center, which drifted towards FR right flank slightly. Heavy damage to a BR LN and RL, but several FR units were reduced to 1 and morale broken in the lone FR cav and a LT amongst ohers. Lucky 1/36 chance took out a FR leader. Bold FR attack on their left forced a full retreat of BR forces and killed an innocent GG unit. Close match where FR held advantage in great tactician cards but the dice were exceedingly friendly to the allies.

    212 Borodino - Utitza (7 September 1812)

    Shaq88 (Allies) - 7 banners (lost 28 blocks)
EZPickins (French) - 4 banners (lost 25 blocks)

It was a very tough scenario, both sides had ups and downs with dice.
Initially the Grand Armee tried to break through centrally and succeeded to enter the town, then russian Grenadiers came up to give help, but they were not really effective. After some skirmishes the Russians surrounded the French advanced center and held positions, but Napoleon's infantry was really headstrong and march against russian line making some victims. The turning point when Blue LN decide to make a melee attack from hills against Green Artillery, getting just one kill and receiving as battle back 4 casualties (very lucky shot). By that point Russians concentrated fire against single block units and got last two victory banners needed.

Thanks EZPickins, really well played game, just a bit unlucky!

    Round 5: 118 Ordal Cross (13 September 1813)

Spanish: Bayernkini 4 Banners (27 blocks lost)
French: Mantra 6 Banners (26 blocks lost)

The battle started with the typical French push on their right to squeeze out the Spaniards, but with the activation being blocked by GA token. Play then shifted to the French left (no right cards). The French pushed into the forest with the goal of reaching the fortifications. The French were repeatedly pushed back from this goal. After several card plays for each Bayernkini scored the first Banner. Not to be out done, the French finally bounced back, with the aid of a +1 TC and tied the count up to 1 Banner each by taking the fortification. Bayernkini had no cards to counter on this and the French were able to get another banner.

Play continued mostly in the center with the French slow moving up and reorganizing and the Brits doing a lot of ranged fire. Things came to a head when the Brits committed to a British cavalry charge against the French build up in the center. The Brit LC's forced 2 LN units into to square, weaken them in the process. The French rose to the occasion and countered the LC on their next play and bagged both British LC's (4 to 3 banners in favor of the French). The Spanish took revenge for the Brits and eliminated the 1 pip French LN in square before being chased off. (4 banners each).

The French reorganized a bit, moving towards some weakened Spanish units, and picked up another banner on a grazing shot against the Spanish leader. The Brits tried to draw off the heat by the British pushing into the center against some weakened French units, but the French had the cards to mask them and then followed up with the Elan card to push against the weakened Spanish for the final banner and win.

Bayernkini played well (as he usually does) and to be totally honest I though was going to lose the game. The French dice weren't cooperating at the start and when ever they got some advantage it was quickly taken away by Bayernkini's dice, cards or play of GA's. The game didn't really shift until the loss of both British LC's. It was fun.
